Eighty years ago this day
Mere children stormed a sandy beach.
They fought against an evil foe
So freedom could be within reach.
Landing crafts released their men
Many men never left the boats.
Machine gun fire came without end
Bullets tore through their soggy coats.
All the rest pressed on and on
The cause of freedom in their heart.
Chaos and death came fast and strong
But each man fought to do his part.
Angels carried them all home
To their eternal rest with God.
Their blood was spilled so we may live
Never forget the path they trod.
The day will come not too far off
When we will meet these valiant men.
Tears will run from grateful eyes
As we thank them with grand amens.
All of what they did for us
They did with pure humility.
We must go forward with that faith
So all may live, and all live free.
